Accessibility.
We build to WCAG 2.2 AA in every language we publish. If something doesn't work for you, tell us so we can fix it.
Version 1 (draft), in effect from . Last updated .
In short
- Our target is WCAG 2.2 level AA on every page, in every language.
- No outside audit has checked the site yet, so we say it partially meets that target.
- We design every page to work with a keyboard, in light and dark themes, and without motion if you turn motion off.
- If something doesn't work for you, tell us through the contact form.
Our goal
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA on every page and in every language we publish.
No outside audit has checked this site yet. Until one does, we describe the site as partially meeting that goal.
What this covers
Every page of this website in every language, the forms on it, receipts and gift pages, and the emails we will send.
How we check the site
- We run automated accessibility checks on our pages as we build them, in several languages.
- We check pages with a keyboard alone, in both light and dark themes, on a phone and on a computer.
- Full passes with the VoiceOver, TalkBack and NVDA screen readers are planned before launch. Their dates will be listed here.
What we build in
- Buttons and other controls are at least 44 pixels in each direction. Links inside sentences follow the text size, as WCAG allows.
- Text and controls meet contrast rules in the light and the dark theme.
- If your device asks for reduced motion, nothing on the page moves.
- Status is shown in words and icons, never by colour alone.
- When we publish Arabic pages, they will read right to left, with the whole layout mirrored.
- We write in plain language, with short sentences.
Limits we know about
- Many translations are machine drafts that a person has not reviewed yet. Each one says so in a banner at the top of the page.
- When giving opens, the payment fields are shown in a frame run by our payment partner. Those fields may not be available in every language we publish.
- Some images on the site are still being made. Where an image is missing, the page shows a plain placeholder.
Tell us about a barrier
If something on this site doesn't work for you, report a problem through our contact form and tell us the page and what happened. We store every message and review it. We can't promise a reply yet.
Other ways to reach us
You can also write to the mailing address on our transparency page. A phone number will be listed here when we have one.
Languages and fair treatment
Our pages are published in English and Spanish today, and more languages will follow. Our help pages are for everyone. We never ask about immigration status. We do not choose individual people for relief: when we buy debt, we buy it in large groups and cancel all of it.
